Surf Bar: Best Folly Beach bar

(Almost) every Tuesday night my friend and I meet out for a beer.  I've found this is the best time, as you may have had a bad start to the week and you need a beer.  Or you have had a good start to the week and want to celebrate and relax.  Either way, a beer is perfect, and doing it on Folly is even better.  We do different spots like Triangle to Finz and now Surf Bar.  It was great.  Anytime you get to see a great sunset,  sit outside, and have a beer, is a good night.  This is why I moved to Charleston!

Plus they have their own beer.  It's super hoppy and extra good.  It's the one with the Surf board handle.

Previous accomplishments Part I

Mayor Riley: Best Charlestonian Mayor Riley

This could also be called best first pitch (my vote for next year).  I accidently went to the opening night and saw Mayor Riley throw out the first pitch.  His arm strength and what he has done so much for this city makes him the best of.  Mayor, keep us feeling small but living big.

Avondale: Best Neighborhood Avondale

So how do I accomplish a neighborhood?  Not sure, so I visited my friends in Byrnes Down, shopped at the local HT, ate at Triangle, and looked at (but didn't ride) the Colburg Cow.  If I didn't love JI so much, this would be my best neighborhood.

Righchus: Best Local Hip Hop Artist Righchus

This is the best part about the best of experiment.  I may never of heard of Righchus and right now I'm listening to him as I am typing away.  I'm addicted.  Afraid of Heights, Blow, and We Winnin.  Can't wait for WOAH-OH-OH-AH-AH-AH-AAAA-HA-AH-AH-AH.

Cinebarre: Best movie theater Cinebarre Terrace

Saw Fast Five using some free passes.  Good Theater: Yes.  Best: Not sure.  I'm a Terrace and Citadel fan.  Imax 3-D.  If only Hollywood did the Hangover P2 in 3-D Imax, the Citadel would win hands down.

The Bridge 105.5: Best Radio Station The Bridge

With Pandora, my iPod, and Lynyrd Skynyrd's greatest hits CD, who needs a radio station.  I do!  I listen to the Bridge at least 3 times a week.  Keep it up.

James Island: Best Island

So you got to start somewhere and what better place to start than the best island in Charleston.  I live on JI and once I saw we were voted best island I knew this list was something special:)  Every time I'm on one of the three bridges that connect us to the mainland I wave goodbye/hello as I cross the ICW.
As you can see below, when this is your view when driving to work it (almost) makes you want to go.

The beginning

So I've been asked by a couple of my friends to post how it's is going, so here it is my official Best Of Charleston 2011 adventure blog.

First a couple of things to know about me if you do not know me:

1) I was traveling and moving a lot for my job, but became homesick and moved back to Charleston about 5 years ago.  Best decision in my life.  Then in March, I was reading the Bill Murray Best of issue and could not believe how many places on the list I have never been to.  So I decided that I would try to do everything on the list.

2) I, like everyone else, have my own unique style, so the rules can be firm at times, but then not so much on others (how am I going to give birth this year???).  Most people do not understand exactly how certain things count.  The best way to describe it is it's a journey and it should be what you want to get out of it.  For me it was to experience new things and reaffirm what makes Charleston so special.

3)  I will try to keep it updated and provide links.  Also, if you read something and enjoy it, defiantly try it.  People travel from all over the world to come here and we are blessed to live here.  Take advantage of it.

4) I have implemented a previous winner tag team.  Some of the doctors, etc that I signed up with because they are previous winners did not make the list.  If I did not like them I would go somewhere else, but if they have won since the 10 year anniversary issue they count for me.  There is a difference in trying a new restaurant that trying to switch dental plans.

So with that, over the next several weeks to get this blog started I'm going to sprinkle in what I have done in the past two month with what I am currently doing.  The issue came out on March 9th, so the clock has been ticking.
